Heavy hearts and unshed tears seemed to follow them as they walked the dark path behind the tree. Three trials they faced, now they marched to meet the Witch.

The scenery changed, not unlike the other two times. A splendid rose garden grew under their feet, the dark sky showed no stars and no moon. A thunder roared, the wind greeted them as they faced each other once again.

Those who entered the trials looked tired and hurt as the walked to the center of the garden, where a sole crystal table stood. Behind it, and leaving her cup of tea, was Beatrice, the Endless Witch, smirking widely as she saw them arrive.

"Not bad, not bad..."

With and elegant move she took out her pipe, and pointed at Apollo. "She forced you to kill her, didn't she?", a chuckle, as she pointed at Firion. "You had to lie to yourself about your friend, even as he died in your arms".

She took a long smoke, before pointing at Yuan. "And you must have experience killing your old lover! At least you did it cleanly this second time!", Beatrice laughed loudly, and pointed at Django. "Was your father a hard opponent? I see denial shields you from what you don't like..."

Beatrice stood up, the tea cup and the table disappearing. "You killed an innocent girl just to see if you could fly again. So heartless of you", she chuckled, pointing at Evan. "You all were very entertaining. It did help to cure my boredom a little! But things must end for them to start again, and your las trial is here... They shall lose everything for only one to gain everything in return"

"I wonder.. who of you will it be? After killing your own hearts, killing a bunch of strangers shouldn't be difficult at all, should it? Only one of you will prevail to see the sun tomorrow..."

Her loud cackles boomed alongside a thunder, as rain started to fall. The Witch moved her hand and a gigantic steel cage fell on them. It was the last game...

Beatrice smirked, her face illuminated briefly by lightning.

Evan woke up, because he felt his feet were getting a little cold.

That probably meant he was freezing to death, considering the awesome shape his brain was in... Oh, and considering the snow, yeah.

So, here he was, in trial number two. More playing with his brain, more weirdass riddles, and more headaches. He was kind of eager, and that was totally wrong. The truth was that Beatrice's voice was still going around on his head... So much wing conversation, he was growing to hate metaphors too.

Evan looked around, searching for Aldina. She was nice, so he could at least get some conversation while the next riddle came to utterly destroy his thinking capabilities.

Django instinctively checked for his gun before even opening his eyes.

Then he opened his eyes, and blinked a few times while they grew accustomed to all the white around. The dad-thing-person was there, he had to admit that he kinda liked him, he did miss dad a lot, but the whole burying his heart thing had left him slightly reluctant to grow attached to his presence... He sneezed a little, completely forgetting his train of thought...

It was kinda cold now that he thought of it.

Oh, it was snow. Good thing he had a scarf.

Apparently, Firion was doomed to wake up in bizarre places after that riddle where his mun spent like three weeks to solve it that was yesterday. The darkness of the place felt familiar, but he quickly standed up in his place, holding his weapons close just in case.

It was cold, really cold. It was a nice change considering the hot that it was yesterday. He only could pray for his armor to protect him all he could. Whatever he might encounter, he knew he could do it. Just as he did the other day.

He had to do it for Maria. To put an end to all of this.

Everyone had already gone in, and he was the last one, unless Mr. or Miss Scratchedname was still out.

So, there was no point on staying here. Miss scary lady was most likely going to get annoyed if he took too long, and Evan wasn't really in the mood to get into more trouble than necessary.

So he stepped into the forest, before his headache got worse.

This was something that Firion had to do on his own, and he couldn't let that Evan got hurt in the process. So, he started walking, telling him that he was going to check to make sure there weren't any monsters around. It wasn't a surprise for him, all of this. He was used to fight creatures in Hell and in the War.

He has seen too much blood, and yet he stands trying to help everyone. The darkness of the place didn't make him hesitate at all. He had a strong will, and he had all the support of his friends inside his heart. They were always with him, no matter the place. And Firion was glad to know that.

At the distance, he could see the figures. Was that the witch? He didn't know. But he had his weapons near him just in case. There was no going back now. Firion was strong like to protect them all. Also, nobody had the right to play with other people's lifes like that.

Firion kept walking, determinated to end this.

As he stepped into the forest, he could feel a somehow familiar awful feeling in the pit of his stomach.

It had been a long while since he last felt it. Thinking about it, he hadn't felt like that ever since that thing had happened.

That thing with father.

He looked back to check on Apollo and noticed that in the last three steps he had taken he had disappeared. It was... Almost expected. Not that it made him worry less about his friend, but still expected.

Going back would probably be no use, at this point he had pretty much assumed that he could only hope that the other would make it back safely. If he didn't then...

Then...

Django knew he was stepping closer and closer to an edge that he couldn't avoid forever, and he had enough mixed feelings to drive the whole population of San Miguel crazy... Even when they weren't a lot of people anyway.

He could swear that sometimes the Moon called him. Not like it probably called Sabata, being that he was the Moon Beauty and all, but it still called.

Most times the call of the Sun was much stronger. Even when the Sun was hiding, even when everything was lost... The Sun still called. But sometimes...

No.

This wasn't one of those times, he wouldn't let it be one of those times. He just had to get out of here, solve this thing and get everyone else out of here. Maybe that would help him get closer to the mystery of this place, and find a way to send everyone back home.

Well, it worked most times.

No tenía sentido.

Miró al frente, hacia la oscuridad, y comenzó a camnar.

Lo que fuera que estuviera por suceder, que sucediera de una vez, maldita sea.

The moon lit the path to the forest's entrance. Old stone steps greeted them, but their eyes couldn't go farther into the darkness than the last of them.

A small stone monument was beside the steps. It was difficult to see, but there were two figures carved in the base: a couple. The woman could be seen easily, but the figure of the man was violently broken. They seemed to be guarding a tablet with an old inscription.

Even with the little light the moon provided, it was easy to read... )

Night fell over the land.

The city was slowly lighting up, as the undead grew stronger in the outside. Still, among all the death, the Solar Tree's fruits glowed with a faint light protecting the city.

Several newcomers had arrived in the last weeks, and the land thrived on their confusion. But this time something else was moving, something beyond the powers of the Pawns... As one of the Observers had started her own game.

The gods still were silent.

All in all, it was a normal night.
